Thinking of You Handmade Card with Distress Oxide Ink Background and Embossed Rain

Welcome to a new "Cards by Kendra" blog post! Today, I'm excited to share this "Thinking of You" handmade card that I created during this crazy corona virus social distancing situation we're in.  I created this card for a card swap Facebook Group that I'm in "Card Swaps for All Seasons" and also enter it into the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge "Whatever the Weather" .  The theme for the card swap is "Rainy Days".  I've been experimenting with Distress Oxide Inks lately and have been working on my ink blending skills.  I must've practiced blending on over a dozen pieces of cardstock.  At first, I was kind of freaking out because I invested in a ton of different colors and just couldn't get those harsh lines out.  But the more I did it, the better I got.  The background I used for this card was from one of those practices (which I don't have on the video...I'm sorry).  But it was pretty straigh

Need Toilet Paper? I’ve got you covered! Handmade Card

Welcome to a new "Cards by Kendra" Blog Post! So the past few days, I've been doing some "Corona Virus Crafting" while social distancing!  With this crazy situation that people all over the world are facing, a little humor goes a long way!!  Here’s a couple of cards I made today since a lot of people can’t find toilet paper! Whimsy stamps is offering this cute digital stamp of a dragon covered in toilet paper! I just love their stamps!! This one just made my day!   I might have to try making some tags with it next! Tags would be great to attach to some toilet paper to give as gifts to my friends who can’t find any!! Except maybe I need to wait a little longer to make sure we don't run out first!  🤣 For the background paper on both cards, I used the "Over the Rainbow" Paper Pack from My Favorite Things. The base of the card and the cardstock used for stamping is Neenah Solar White 110# cardstock. The dragons were colored with copi

Happy Birthday Green Polka Dots Shaker Card

Welcome to another "Cards by Kendra" blog post! I made this quick, fun birthday shaker card for the My Favorite Things Color Challenge #137 I used the green polka dot paper from the Over the Rainbow Paper Pack with a Chocolate cardstock frame on white 110# heavyweight cardstock (cut to A2 size, top fold). The Happy Birthday Circle Die was cut from green cardstock and then I layered it on top of a lighter green cardstock. I had a slightly bigger circle die that I used to cut another frame from the chocolate color cardstock. I used a lemon color cardstock on the backside, which is what shows through the shaker pouch. I filled the shaker pouch with iridescent and gold sequins. I added a matching brown ribbon and a lemon and gold twine bow to finish the card.  I hope you like it!  P lease leave a comment and let me know what you think!  I'd love to read your comments!   Thanks! ~Kendra Morgan Please visit my website  www.cardsbykendra.com  for more ca

Art Impressions “Tan It” Handmade Wobble Card

Welcome to another "Cards by Kendra" blog post! Here’s little humor during these crazy times! I thought I’d use this “Tan It” stamp set from Art Impressions because it accurately describes how I’m feeling right now. We are in the midst of this Corona virus pandemic and we are social distancing. So if I can’t go to the gym, I can at least lay out, right? You just have to turn on the sound!! The song is the best part! It was colored using Copic markers. I’m still learning about shading. I thought these fun and simple cards would be perfect for my friends who are also stuck at home like me!  I hope you like my fun wobble butt cards! Fun Bridge Fold Handmade Cards with Bright Die Cuts colored with Copic Markers

Welcome to a new "Cards by Kendra" blog post! Today, I'm excited to share these handmade bridge fold cards that I made during my self-isolation at home.  I'm a school teacher and we are out this week and next week (our spring break), so I've had some extra time to work on my papercrafting!  I just loved how the first bridge card turned out, so I just kept making more! Keep reading for instructions! To create the bridge card, you'll need a heavyweight cardstock (I used 110# Neenah Solar White) cut to 8" x 4 1/4".  See instructions below: The first card I made was using the Little Ladybug Host Cling Stamp Set and  Matching Die set from Stampin' Up!   The ladybugs, flower and sentiments were all stamped with  Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black   then coated with  clear embossing powder  and heat set.  I colored the stamped images using Copic markers R29, R35, R24, Y21, N0, YG03, YG17, and Y19.  The grass portion on the bridge la

Message in a Bottle Beach Watercolor Wash Background Handmade Shaker Card - My Favorite Things

Welcome to a new "Cards by Kendra" blog post! Today, I'm excited to share this handmade shaker card I recently created for the March 2020 card swap in the Facebook group "Card Swaps for All Seasons".  The theme was "Husband Appreciation".  I had a hard time with this theme at first. I didn't really know where to start.  I ordered some new products from My Favorite Things, including the Message in a Bottle die set, and I just couldn't wait to use it! So rather than going with a masculine theme, I decided to go with a beach theme so I could use my new die set.  I think this card would work for either gender (what do you think?).  For the background, I used Stampin' Write markers on an acrylic block to create a watercolor wash look in beach colors. For the bottom part, I colored quite of a bit of the bottom of a Stampin' Up clear acrylic block "E" using the crumb cake marker and then a very small line of soft suede a

Three Distress Oxide Background Handmade Cards (Two Shaker Cards) Tutorial

Welcome to a new Cards By Kendra blog post!   Today I wanted to share the tutorial video for these three handmade cards I made using Distress oxide inks for making the backgrounds.  I posted about the third card a few days ago, which is a scented "Happy Birthday" card.  I promised a tutorial video on how I made it, so here it is!  Two of these three cards are shaker cards. The first card I made (not a shaker card) is below. The first card was made using an emboss resist technique with the Batik stencil from Martha Stewart.  My video tutorial doesn't show all of the steps and instructions for the first card shown in the picture.  It only shows how I made the background.  To finish the card, I used the "Friend" die and the flower/vine die from the  "Well Written" die set by Stampin' Up. I thought the flower matched the center part of the stenciled image pretty well.  Black cardstock was used to cut out the die cuts and then adhered t

Floral Sympathy Card with Purple Gingham

Welcome to a new Cards By Kendra blog post!   Today I wanted to share a handmade card I made for the "Cardmakers Card Swaps" group on Facebook.  The March 2020 theme was "Sympathy".   I used the stamp set "All That You Are"  for the flower and "Itty Bitty Greetings" for the sentiment, both  from ©Stampin' Up! .  I colored the flower with Stampin' blends Highland Heather and Old Olive light and dark color alcohol markers.  The sentiment was punched out using the Classic Label punch and attached with 3D foam squares.  The frame (4"x5.25") was cut from the Highland Heather color sheet from the Gingham Gala 6"x6" Designer Series Paper.  The bow was made from matching Highland Heather organdy ribbon tied around the top piece and secured with adhesive. This was a very simple, yet beautiful card to make. I hope you like it!  Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

Simple Purple Floral Easter Handmade Card made with Stencil and Distress Inks

Welcome to a new Cards By Kendra blog post!   Today I wanted to share this simple and easy to make Easter card I made for a card swap for the Facebook Group "Card Swaps for All Seasons".  This was my first handmade card using Distress Inks and a stencil.  I think it turned out pretty good considering this was my first one. I used the Picket Fence  Life Changing Blender Brush  Set and Flower Stencil (the stencil is only available for purchase in this set).  I started with a piece of  110# Neenah Solar White cardstock base  that I cut to 6"x6" to match the size of the stencil.  I used Wilted Violet and Peacock Feathers Distress Ink for the flowers and Pine Needles Distress Oxide ink for the leaves.  I started with the  Wilted Violet  on the center of the flowers using one of the smaller blending brushes.  I added the Peacock Feathers  to the outer petals and blended them (it totally changed the color and it looked more navy than teal but I thought it lo

Watercolor Distress Torn Birthday Cake Scented Shaker Card made with Aroma Beads

Welcome to a new Cards By Kendra blog post!   Today I wanted to share this card that I made for a card swap with a watercolor theme for the Facebook Group "Card Swaps for All Seasons".  I've been experimenting with a lot of different types of ink lately and for this card I used several different techniques using watercolor pencils, Distress Oxide Inks and Distress Spray. The watercolor frame was made using three of my favorite colors of distress oxide inks on watercolor paper using a smooshing technique (I found a video for this on YouTube a while back).  I used the following Distress Oxide ink colors:   squeezed lemonade , twisted citron and mermaid lagoon .  After letting this dry overnight I used the largest die and then two sizes smaller to make the frame from the torn edge rectangle die set .  Next, I used a die that had small holes in it on a piece of clear acetate that was cut just slightly bigger than the smaller rectangle die.  I ran this through my
