Welcome to a new Cards By Kendra blog post!
Today I wanted to share this simple and easy to make Easter card I made for a card swap for the Facebook Group "Card Swaps for All Seasons". This was my first handmade card using Distress Inks and a stencil. I think it turned out pretty good considering this was my first one.
I used the Picket Fence Life Changing Blender Brush Set and Flower Stencil (the stencil is only available for purchase in this set). I started with a piece of 110# Neenah Solar White cardstock base that I cut to 6"x6" to match the size of the stencil. I used Wilted Violet and Peacock Feathers Distress Ink for the flowers and Pine Needles Distress Oxide ink for the leaves. I started with the Wilted Violet on the center of the flowers using one of the smaller blending brushes. I added the Peacock Feathers to the outer petals and blended them (it totally changed the color and it looked more navy than teal but I thought it looked pretty). I used an even smaller brush to apply the pine needles ink to the leaves. If you've never tried these blender brushes, you're missing out! I love them!
After letting this dry, I trimmed it down to 4"x5.25". I took another sheet of 110# Neenah Solar White cardstock base, cut it to 5.5” x 8.5” and scored it at 4.25”. I used the Wilted Violet distress ink again and ran the ink pad along the edges of my card base to give it a layered look. After this was completely dry, I added the floral piece to the base using Tombow Adhesive.
For the sentiment, I used a scrap piece of white cardstock and stamped an "Easter Blessings" sentiment from the Itty Bitty Greetings stamp set from Stampin' Up with Versamark ink. I coated it with clear embossing powder and heat set it with my Darice heat tool. Amazon has an Embossing starter kit that includes the heat tool, super fine embossing powder in gold and two embossing pens (one in clear and the other in black). This is a great deal if you're just starting out and don't have a heat tool already! After letting this cool, I applied the wilted violet on top of the embossed sentiment (which the ink resisted) and applied the peacock feathers to the edges. I cut this out using the classic label punch from Stampin' Up. I attached this to my card using 3D foam adhesive squares. To finish off the card, I applied Diamond Ranger Stickles Glitter Glue to the outer petals. My intention was to make it look like dew drops. Finally, I added a few teal iridescent multi-faceted flat back rhinestones from a nail art kit (this nail art kit from Amazon is great because it has a variety of sizes and colors and it even comes with tweezers).
This was a really fun and easy card to make. I hope you like it! Please let me know what you think! I love reading your comments! If you make this card (or one similar), post it on Instagram, Facebook or Pinterest and tag me @cardsbykendra!
